More Marketing would help the game of snooker
May 23, 2009
It has been very well documented that the UK public is losing interest in the game of snooker, this could have a massive effect on the game and it’s future in the UK. But how does snooker in the UK resolve this large issue? The game needs far more marketing and exposure.
Apart from the World Championships you rarely here about snooker in the media, it seems the whole UK is only interested in Snooker when the World Championships are on. More marketing will bring more attention to the game and attract more young players to take up the game.
Snookers governing body could push money into several different marketing areas such as online marketing. Creating business telemarketing lists would send snooker information to more people online, and help the game grow again. They should of course market more in other areas such as television, radio and newspapers.
There are many other prestigious snooker tournaments taking place over the whole year, and with further exposure from marketing many more people will be watching and participating in the game.
Playing Snooker Outdoors
May 18, 2009
With summer just round the corner many people will be considering buying an outdoor pool table. Imagine playing pool in the sunshine on a warm Saturday afternoon in the comfort of your own garden, next to your garden gazebo. Sounds like the perfect Saturday afternoon for pool lovers.
There are many companies out there that offer completely waterproof pool tables made from the finest waterproof materials, for when it rains, which in the UK it will! Your outdoor pool table would be the envy of all your friends, and they will always want to come round and play.
Most outdoor pool tables will stand up to a lot of abuse from the young ones, and will also stand up the the weather elements the UK will try to throw at it. There are many options of outdoor pool tables you could choose from, including wooden tables and fibreglass pool tables, both types of tables deliver great results, simply pick the one to match the style of your garden.
Once you have brought your outdoor pool table you will also need the accessories for it, including triangles balls of course and pool cues. For people will a large enough garden I would strongly recommend buying an outdoor pool table, there is of course the indoor option size permitting
Snooker after a hard day at the office
May 15, 2009
It has been well documented that snooker is getting less and less popular in the UK, less people are leaving the comfort of their office chairs and playing snooker after work. This has effected riley’s profit and they have even had to close few of their snooker clubs due to lack of popularity these days.
It seems that the working people are more likely to stay sat down on their office chairs than go and play a nice relaxing game of snooker. But why is this?
Older more exciting players such as Alex Higgins have long left the game, it seems the only exciting player left is Ronnie O’Sullivan who threatens to quit on a regular basis. Maybe the game has become too professional, what was once a drinking man’s game has turned into a fully professional game with players practicing harder and harder and the quality becoming better and better.
Maybe the game is at such a high level people are finding it to boring to watch or take up. The game needs some more charismatic players quickly that can encourage young people in the UK to take up the game and keep the future alive. If this does not happen the game will quickly move to the far east where there seems to be more energy and popularity for snooker.
Crucible to Undertake a Major Facelift
May 14, 2009
After the latest World Championships the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield has continued re-development. The Crucible will now be closed to begin stage two of the massive redevelopment work which is meant to complete by November 2009.
The new development will be completed in stages which includes fitting a new roof, plus major renovation work to the cladding and glazing areas of the building. There will also be access improvements to the old building to improve wheelchair access including disabled lifts and extra wheelchair spaces.
New handrails will be added and a lift to all the serving levels, and into the bar area. The bar area will even contain new vending machines for visitors. The box office will be moved to the front of the building allowing more light into the building and there is a much wider space for people watching the snooker or going to the Theatre.
The most striking change to the theatre is the new entrance which will be immediately noticeable. The bar area has also been modeled. They have even used old notes and recycled materials to decorate the bar, and a brand new crucible carpet which had worn badly over the years. The actual auditorium has had a brand new stage fitted and the seats will be comfier for visitors, having higher backs to make watching the snooker and theatre shows more comfortable. Twinkle lights have also been added to the auditorium to help enhance one of the UK’s oldest theatres
Higgins wins the World Championships to join snookers elite
May 5, 2009
John Higgins won the Snooker World Championships yesterday with an easy 18-9 victory over Shaun Murphy. the victory was worth a cool £250,000 for Higggins, but he will be more happy to have only been the third player to win three titles at the crucible.
The is win has placed Higgins on the same pedastal as Stephen Hendry, Ronnie O’Sullivan and the great Steve Davis.
Higgins found the experience of winning the title again amazing, and stated that these days snooker is a young mans game, but he has proven that the old rear guard will still take some beating.
Higgins did not have an easy path into the final coming within inches of going out on two occasions. Both times however Higgins held his nerve to win the matches 13-12, against both Mark Selby and Jamie Cope.
Higgins was very happy to have beaten the likes of Allen, Cope and Selby as he considers these players to be the best young talents in the game. Higgins firmly believes that all of these players will make the top three players in then world one day, and that they are the future of snooker.
Ronnie O’Sullivan even stated before the tournament that if he did not win it Higgins would do. Higgins laughed this off after winning, and although he thinks O’Sullivan’s remarks were clever he was still very lucky to have made it into the final
Higgins however won the final with ease, even though Murphy had played some excellent snooker Higgins safety play was fantastic and kept him on top throughout the final. Higgins professionally closed out the final, and now becomes the oldest player to win the title since Dennis Taylor in 1985.
