Matthew Stevens was a very successful Welsh and began his professional career at the young age of 17. By 1996/1997 Stevens broke into one of the top 32 players in the World. By the year 2001 Matthew was upto World number 6, having won a few ranking events including the Benson & Hedges Masters.
Matthews best year was 2003 when he achieved his boyhood dream of winning a ranking tournament, beating Stephen Hendry in a difficult and dramatic UK final. Since then Matthew has got to a couple of semi-finals, and has had some poor results. Few however would bet against Matthew winning another ranking tournament.
